Timberscombe Children Dressed for a "Hospital Gala", 15th May 1948
Title
Timberscombe Children Dressed for a "Hospital Gala", 15th May 1948
Subject
Description
A photograph of 13 children of Timberscombe, rather grandly dressed. The occasion is a 15th of May 1948 Hospital Gala (1). The reverse of the photograph is stamped "THE CHORLEY GUARDIAN CO. LTD COPYRIGHT". The Chorley Guardian is a well known Lancashire newspaper which may have originally published the photograph. The photograph was donated in 2019 by Maurice Huxtable, a lifelong resident of Timberscombe. In 1948, Mr. Huxtable would have been about 16 years old, a bit too old to be in this group.
The Chorley Guardian newspaper started in Chorley, Lancashire. In 2016, it celebrated its 145th birthday, having been founded by Septimus Fowler with offices on Fazackerley Street. After his death, rights were sold to the Chorley Guardian Company. In recent times, the newspaper was printed at News Printer Knowsley Ltd., Merseyside and online (2), and later has its headquarters at Stuart House, Caxton Road, Preston, Lancashire. It is a member of the Independent Press Standard Organization. In modern times, in print and online, the publication is headlined as "Chorley Guardian, News you can trust since 1871" (3).
Unfortunately none of the children are yet identified. If you have any clues, please contact us. Thanks.
